Oddball mysteries crop up in a secret basement room as young Liv is about to board a ferry to Denmark and fly a helicopter as birthday presents..

But first, welcome, the ghostly black cat, Titanic. Cats have nine lives as we all know, but this one has 10. About to embark on her boat trip, Liv and best friend Thomas discover an old photo in the apartment where she lives of two girls and a cat. All of a sudden the cat comes to life and jumps out of the photo. The shock sends Liv to the hospital, from where she tries to unravel the mystery as well as what’s happening to her, or could it have something to do with the famous Titanic catastrophe? Adults won’t believe her story, but an elderly neighbor enters to help her get to the bottom of things. (Film won a 2008 Berlin Film Festival Special Mention.)

Recommended for age 9+. Parental Advisory: some scenes may be frightening for younger children.

An Excellent mystery/adventure film for Kids and their parents

Like most of the Childish films I’ve been to in the last few years, the Ten Lives of Titanic the cat was another super choice!
It’d be nice to see more kids at these, the regular mspiff films are packed but this one was sparsely attended. Perhaps there needs to be more exposure in the places where kids and their parents might get info about the childish films.

Worth seeking out

With such a strong female lead, and a compelling story, this film is worth hunting down if you can’t see it at the film fest.

Mississippi Watershed group retools grants program, hopes to reach diverse communities

A Twin Cities watershed organization has a quarter million dollars of grant money to divvy up over the next few months, and they’re hoping groups that have traditionally not applied for funding will show up for an information meeting on Monday, September 8.

“Look at the demographics of our watershed,” explains Jenny Winkelman, Education & Outreach Coordinator for the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO), which covers portions of the cities of Minneapolis, St. Paul, Lauderdale, and St. Anthony. “We have a huge audience we’re trying to reach, many of them fairly recent immigrant communities, such as the Hmong and Somali communities. Most traditional watershed materials are produced for a literate, English-speaking audience and may miss important populations.” MORE »
