Director: TOM KALIN

Savage Grace tells the astonishing story of Barbara Daly (Julianne Moore in another ferocious performance), who marries above her class to become the wife of Brooks Baekeland (Stephen Dillane), heir to the bakelite plastics fortune.

The Baekelands’ pursuit of social distinction and the glittering ‘good life’ propels them across the globe from New York, Paris, Barcelona and London. Alluring and charismatic, yet an unabashed social climber, Barbara becomes an embarrassment to her well-bred husband. In this marriage of extremes, her homosexual son, Tony (a knockout performance by Eddie Redmayne), rocks the uneasy balance. As Tony matures and becomes increasingly close to his lonely mother, catastrophe is on the rise as Barbara, scorned by her husband, takes control, ending in his 1972 murder, rattling both sides of the Atlantic. This true story from director Kalin (the 1992 film, Swoon) and maverick producer, Christine Vachon, is based on the book by Natalie Robins.

THEATER | "White Sheep of the Family," a sharp farce at Theatre in the Round
