American Teen

Director: NANETTE BURSTEIN
Going beyond nerd and jock high school stereotyping — so engrossing it could be fiction American Teen follows the lives of four teenagers in a small town in Indiana through their senior year of high school.
Director Nanette Burstein filmed each of them daily for 10 months as they make their way into adulthood, a remarkable peek into the anxieties, heartbreaks, jealousies and joys of being 17 again, along with parental pressures of moving forward beyond high school and creating a window for the future. Burstein won the Documentary Directing Award for American Teen at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. She also directed and co-produced the Robert Evans documentary, The Kid Stays in the Picture.
