MONDAY PICK | The Beautiful Refrigerator is Empty by No Face Performance Group
The Beautiful Refrigerator is Empty is a multi-disciplinary exploration of the transformative pressures of adolescence. Teena Geist is a perfectly normal fourteen-year-old girl: she has a best friend, Jessica; she has a crush on a boy, Tod; she dreams of going to the prom with that boy and being his prom queen. Except Tod is Jessica’s boyfriend. And Jessica has been missing for three days. As Teena relates the events surrounding Jessica’s disappearance, the audience is forced to confront the dark realities of teenage angst. Did Teena have something to do with Jessica’s disappearance? Would she destroy a lifelong friendship to act on her overpowering lust? As the hour of prom approaches, Teena’s stories veer from high school mundanity to dark humor and Grand Guignol horror. What depravity lurks beneath the veneer of high school normalcy? Teena knows, and tonight, on Prom night, she’s telling all about it.
