Composing the Elements
Featuring the artwork of David Knowlton, Joonja Lee Mornes, and David Royce
Inez Greenberg Gallery
February 22 – April 5, 2013
Painters David Knowlton and Joonja Lee Mornes are both inspired by the simplicity and elegance of the rural landscape. Knowlton’s barn paintings exaggerate the abstract elements of the architecture, while Mornes’ color field paintings are inspired by both the rice fields of her youth in Korea as well as the prairie grasses of the Midwest. Both painters emphasize the use of color, light, shadow, and the changing seasons in their contemplative paintings. Artist David Royce’s blown glass sculptures and vases complement the paintings with his elegant shapes and lush colors. The heavily layered glass and hand carving work intensifies the effect of these deceivingly simple forms.
