For the past several years, workers across Europe have been suffering under the harsh austerity imposed upon them by the ruling class—all in order to pay for the ruling class’ own crisis. From Greece to Spain, Portugal to Romania, we have seen countless protests and general strikes as workers have come out by the millions to reject cuts to wages, pensions, and their jobs. Unemployment in the eurozone is right around 12%, with no end in the foreseeable future.

Back home in the U.S., Obama and both the Republicans and Democrats in congress continue to fumble their way from one issue to the next. The latest debacle is the “sequestration” (basically, another word for austerity), which will result in more job losses and cuts to numerous vital social programs. How will the crisis in Europe affect the U.S.? Will we see the drastic cuts and subsequent unrest that is now going on in Europe? How can the workers fight back and win?

Join the Workers International League for a discussion on the crisis of capitalism and learn more about what we believe to be the only way forward for workers in the U.S., Europe, and around the world—socialism—a rational and democratically planned economy and society.
