Live salsa music with Tropical Zone Orchestra

Tropical Zone Orchestra presents live salsa music every other Friday at Dixie’s on Grand Avenue in St. Paul.
Tropical Zone Orchestra is a talented group comprised of Minnesota and Puerto Rican musicians. Pedro Fonseca, the bandleader Tropical Zone Orchestra is from Caguas, Puerto Rico. He says that he was exposed to musical masters including: El Gran Combo, Willie Colon, Hector Lavoe, Ruben Blades and others. His musical influences are obvious in his swinging style and expressive improvisations that make him a favorite with Twin City salsa fans.

Dobby Gibson releases "Skirmish" at The Loft

Gibson will read from his second poetry collection Skirmish. A former McKnight Foundation Fellowship winner, his first collection of poems, Polar, won the Beatrice Hawley Award. His work has appeared in numerous literary journals.
“This is a poetry of – in Gibson’s own terms – echolocation, that makes us grapple with the ghosts of speech and world at once.

Award-winning stage and screen actor Stacy Keach as Nixon, known for his portrayals of detective Mike Hammer and Ernest Hemmingway, leads a cast of ten in this fast-paced Tony Award-nominated new play.

"Long Night’s Journey into Day"

With surreal beauty and deliberate ambiguity Megan Rye’s paintings encourage viewers to see the Iraqi War through the eyes of those who’ve witnessed it firsthand. Her works in “Long Night’s Journey into Day” explore her ongoing fascination with images taken primarily by her brother, Ryan Nosek, while stationed in Iraq as a U.S. Marine. Rye has based her work off her brother’s photographs since 2005, the year he returned from duty.
Illumination of a Saint: The Legend of Sankta Lucia

Explore the traditions associated with Saint Lucia, from her origins as a fourth-century martyr to the legends of her appearance in Sweden.
There are many legends associated with Lucia starting in fourth century Sicily. A young woman gave her dowry away to the poor and confessed herself a Christian. For this she was accused of witchcraft and put to death. Another legend tells of a famine in medieval days. A glowing figure dressed in white, Saint Lucia came across a great lake in the province of Värmland, Sweden.
She brought gifts of food to the starving people.
