Bethel University’s Olson Gallery pleased to present new works by Bethel University Associate Professor of Art Jeff Wetzig.

Jeff Wetzig’s collection of prints transform their traditional roots in Japanese woodblock prints to explore the medium as a means of installation. He investigates the idea of boundaries and borders as they relate to themes such as mass communication, repetition, and fear. The delicate nature of line and color in his woodblock prints are an interesting contrast to their subject matter.

Red Wing Framing Gallery exhibits original illustration advertising art from The Cream of Wheat Company.

Milling factories dominated the Minneapolis economy in the early 20th century and the Cream of Wheat company was a major influence in shaping this industry. From its founding in 1897, Cream of Wheat hot cereal achieved worldwide recognition for its full color, fine art illustrated advertising.

Emery Mapes, a demanding and eccentric marketing genius, shaped Cream of Wheat’s iconic campaign, and hired the best talent available to execute his vision.

October 22nd – 25th: Beakman LIVE, at In the Heart of the Beast Theatre

A live stage spectacle, based on the Emmy award winning children’s TV show Beakman’s World. The show features large scale, wacky science demos with plenty of audience participation and trademark goofy humor.

Toastmasters is the world’s largest organization devoted to developing communication skills. It now has some 200,000 members in 10,000 Toastmasters clubs in about 80 countries. In the Twin Cities and surrounding metro area, there are over 200 clubs!

Discovery Toastmasters Club meets every Wednesday at the Imation World Headquarters (Discovery) Building in Oakdale. This one-stop housing crisis center is offering mortgage loan counseling and foreclosure prevention services to individuals and families who have fallen behind on mortgage payments, or are facing possible foreclosure. Center hours: Tuesdays from 6-8 pm; Saturdays from 10 am – noon. Walk ins are welcome.

KATE LYNN HIBBARD’s first book of poems, Sleeping Upside Down, won the Gerald Cable Book Award and was nominated for the Audre Lorde Poetry Prize. Her poems and essays are published and forthcoming in numerous journals and anthologies, including Bloom, Woman Wonderlands, and Prairie Schooner. Other honors include a Loft McKnight Artist Fellowship in Poetry, a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship, and a grant from the Astraea Foundation Lesbian Writers Fund. She teaches English at Minneapolis Community and Technical College and lives in St.
