A multi-media installation reflecting on the compelling experiences with or related challenges to our basic liberties.

Beginning on Labor Day, Water and Oil Art Gallery will host the exhibit “Hands On: People at Work.” Selected works will offer tribute to the sweat equity earned through hard work, artisanship and craftsmanship. Featured artist Judy Westergard will be displaying her series “A Show of Hands—Hands as Portraiture.” Evocative of their owners’ personal narratives, Westergard describes the inspiration that led to these works:

“I grew up in historic northeast Minneapolis in a blue-collar environment. I studied my mom’s hands as she hung clothes and rolled dough for pierogi.

Bethel University’s Olson Gallery pleased to present new works by Bethel University Associate Professor of Art Jeff Wetzig.

Jeff Wetzig’s collection of prints transform their traditional roots in Japanese woodblock prints to explore the medium as a means of installation. He investigates the idea of boundaries and borders as they relate to themes such as mass communication, repetition, and fear. The delicate nature of line and color in his woodblock prints are an interesting contrast to their subject matter.

“Conceived on the banks of the Mississippi River in 1983, Tickled Pink, serves up the old familiar with three men playing to the best of their abilities, both rare and well done.“



September 20th: Preserve the Harvest Day, at Midtown Farmers’ Market

“Celebrate the harvest season at the Midtown Farmers’ Market with demonstrations of root cellaring, canning and pickling, drying and fermenting. In addition to tastings of preserved foods, Chef Ron Huff, President of Slow Food Minnesota will be back for a ‘preserving the harvest’ cooking demonstration.“

Using What You Got: Interactive Performance Storytelling is a 3-week workshop that will teach participants a new way to see and hear story and how to use empathy as a tool in the creation of their work. Participants will learn how to use theater games and improv to create text and movement for their performance, and to consider how they engage the audience in their work and consider them as participants in the process.

What happened and what can we learn from it? Were the protests successful? Why or why not? What was your experience? How do we stay organized? What about the ongoing legal battle and the struggle for summation?

Activists in the Twin Cities organized against the RNC for up to two years.

The She Rock Festival, at Pi Nightclub, 2532 25th Ave. South in Minneapolis, begins on Friday, September 19, at 7 pm and Saturday, September 20, at 3 pm with a DJ spinning until 2 am following performances.
