Hands On: People at Work Art Exhibit

Beginning on Labor Day, Water and Oil Art Gallery will host the exhibit “Hands On: People at Work.” Selected works will offer tribute to the sweat equity earned through hard work, artisanship and craftsmanship. Featured artist Judy Westergard will be displaying her series “A Show of Hands—Hands as Portraiture.” Evocative of their owners’ personal narratives, Westergard describes the inspiration that led to these works:
“I grew up in historic northeast Minneapolis in a blue-collar environment. I studied my mom’s hands as she hung clothes and rolled dough for pierogi.

Discovery Toastmasters Club (Oakdale) Weekly Meeting
Toastmasters is the world’s largest organization devoted to developing communication skills. It now has some 200,000 members in 10,000 Toastmasters clubs in about 80 countries. In the Twin Cities and surrounding metro area, there are over 200 clubs!
Discovery Toastmasters Club meets every Wednesday at the Imation World Headquarters (Discovery) Building in Oakdale. Meetings are open to the general public and there is never a cost to check out a meeting.
Invest in Minnesota Campaign Networking Lunch

The state’s financial situation is one of an inadequate level of investment, both in terms of human capital and infrastructure, and this is a threat to our state’s economic future and our quality of life and it’s time to Invest in Minnesota.
Join the Invest in Minnesota Campaign Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 11:30 a.m. at the Ridgedale Library, 12601 Ridgedale Dr., Minnetonka to discuss the importance of having adequate funding that is raised fairly and invested strategically.
Sustainable Homeownership and Anti-Foreclosure Response Center (SHARC)
This one-stop housing crisis center is offering mortgage loan counseling and foreclosure prevention services to individuals and families who have fallen behind on mortgage payments, or are facing possible foreclosure. Center hours: Tuesdays from 6-8 pm; Saturdays from 10 am – noon. Walk ins are welcome.
The center is located at the Minneapolis Urban League’s Glover Sudduth-Center, 2100 Plymouth Avenue N., Minneapolis, 55411. To make an appointment, call (612) 827-9299. (The center is a joint venture between the Minneapolis Urban League and Minnesota ACORN).
