Connecting Minnesota to Mogadishu
Somalia recently experienced a spike of violence with troops firing on people protesting food shortages and 38 people dying in attacks by suspected insurgents. While peace talks opened this week between the insurgents and the Ethiopian-supported temporary government, the two sides have not met face-to-face. It's been 17 years since the country had a stable central government and Somali - particularly its capital, Mogadishu—is one of the most dangerous places in the world.
Tom Crann will host a discussion about the bridge between Somalia and the Twin Cities. He will be joined by Abdi Aynte, a former Twin Cities resident who now works for the BBC covering Somalia, and we'll have Mohamed Olad Hassan, a reporter based in Mogadishu, join us by phone with the latest news.
Admission is free, but RSVP is required. Go to Connecting Minnesota to Mogadisu at http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/mpr/events.eventsmain?action=showEvent....
