Venus Reconsidered: Art Exhibit May 9-18
Vintage meets modern at Water and Oil Art Gallery this May. Opening May 9th, the exhibit ‘Venus Reconsidered: Nudes Past and Present’ will pair artwork from the gallery’s Nordic collection with a trio of local figure artists. From classical aesthetics to contemporary takes on the body, the exhibit will survey the various ways that the human figure is represented, and how these representations mold our ideas of beauty, self-image, and health.
Featured artists: painter Susan M. Davies, sculptor Pauline Mitchell, and tattoo artisan Koré Grate. The gallery will be donating a portion of the proceeds from sales to a chosen NPO: this month it will be the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
