Intermedia Arts proudly presents the 12th annual installment of MINNEAPOLIS 55408, the multimedia, multi-artist exhibition that displays new works from Minneapolis’ most creative zip code. Called the “artiest city west of the Mississippi” by USA Today, Minneapolis is a Mecca for artists and art lovers. Minneapolis 55408 will surprise and delight audiences, as they discover the unique artistic voices this neighborhood has to share!

For the past 12 years, Intermedia Arts has proudly opened its galleries to 55408 artists of all levels of experience. Minneapolis 55408 creates a sense of community for many artists who may not have an opportunity to show work in more traditional gallery settings. This annual exhibition of work by artists who live or work in the 55408 zip code serves an avenue for neighborhood artists to connect to each other, share experiences and sell their work.

More than 40 artists have come together for this year’s eclectic exhibition: painting, sculpture, photography, illustration and more will be collected in Intermedia Arts’ gallery for our community to explore and celebrate.

Join us at our Opening Night Reception on Friday, March 14th for an evening of community dialogue, excellent art, wine, beer, appetizers and dancing. Special guest and 55408 curator-alum Mike Hoyt brings the noise as DJ and the host of the Second Annual Karaoke Blowout. Visit www.intermediaarts.org for more information.

“… To have this unique and nurturing venue for showing work means so much to non-professional artists like myself, for whom art – even if not our living—is so vital.” —Florence Brammer, former Minneapolis 55408 artist

Advise and Dissent: Bethany Gustafson

What would you like to tell president-elect Barack Obama? Advise and Dissent features Minnesota opinions on what the new president should be thinking and doing.

Mr. President-elect, because you were elected on the hope for change, I ask you to seek advice from a wide variety of people, to look to people who have experience as well as to new voices outside of Washington and outside of the corporate establishment. MORE »

THEATER | "White Sheep of the Family," a sharp farce at Theatre in the Round

You’re not going to find a stronger theater company in the Twin Cities than the Theatre in the Round Players, and they’ve done it again, mounting yet anotther first-rate production. The White Sheep of the Family, by L. du Garde Peach and Ian Hay, is a splendidly written, sharply directed, beautifully acted farce you’re going to rush home and tell family, friends—pretty much anyone who’ll listen—all about.
