Erik McClanahan is a freelance film journalist living in South Minneapolis. In addition to his work as film critic and feature writer for the the Daily Planet, he also writes for
Vita.MN,
Secrets of the City (formerly
The Rake),
MnDialog, and
The Aspect Ratio. Erik is also co-host (along with fellow Daily Planet film critic
Jim Brunzell and published author Peter Schilling) of
Movie Talk on
KFAI radio, in which the hosts interview people from the local film community, review films, and discuss the latest film news.
Erik graduated with a BA in journalism from Winona State University in 2006, and upon finishing his degree, moved back to the Twin Cities; he grew up in White Bear Lake. At Winona, he found an outlet for his passion writing two years as film critic for
The Winonan. A lover of all kinds of films (except musicals), Erik spends most of his time at the theater and at home watching DVDs. Not a total recluse, he does enjoy the outdoors (especially the St. Croix River), playing sports (hockey, golf, disc golf), shooting video, and reading.
