Artists and art-lovers, help us promote your upcoming events!

At the Twin Cities Daily Planet, we're an edited news publication—but that's where the similarities between us and traditional journalists end. We believe that there's more knowledge to be found in our communities than can be found in any one newsroom, and to that end we aim to empower Twin Cities residents to tell their own story. We want to be your megaphone.

NEIGHBORHOOD NOTES | Tracy Metz at the University of Minnesota: Does the Mississippi riverfront need an "extreme makeover"?

In Minneapolis, our lakes and parks are among the city's great gems—and the Minneapolis Parks Foundation is aiming to make sure they stay that way. Even if our eyes were a little bigger than our stomachs with the Minneapolis Riverfront Design Competition (Mayor Rybak: "How we are going to get this done is going to be tough"), the foundation is going back for seconds.

Slave to fashion: Is any look truly timeless?

One of my favorite episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the season three entry “The Wish.” In this episode, social queen bee Cordelia returns to Sunnydale High after being impaled by a wayward spike of rebar, but even worse, after being cheated on by her unpopular boyfriend. All right, Olympics sports reporters. I have simply heard enough about Ryan Lochte and men’s swimming in general. Let’s move on to the real stars of the swimming pool. I speak, of course, of the drag queens of the water: the synchronized swimmers.

Isabel Marant and the return of the high-heeled sneaker

Is there anything tackier than the unnatural hybrid of the sneaker and the high-heeled shoe? In the early 2000s we had those hideous Converse high-top stilettos, and the Manolo Blahnik/Timbaland work boots that Jennifer Lopez wore when she was still “Jenny from the Block” still give me the icks.
