Beatrix*JAR livens up University Avenue in St. Paul

So there's this keyboard-like apparatus that can meow a more-or-less musical scale. Or bark it. Or make other animal and electronic sounds. And a collection of bright, happy, somewhat exotic cats and birds lining the storefront windowsill. But most of all, there are two enthusiastic, friendly and clearly talented artists, eager to show me all their toys, musical instruments, and inventions — together they are Beatrix*JAR, currently nesting at 2401 University Avenue in St. Paul. Bianca Pettis - "Beatrix" and Jacob Aaron Roske "JAR" call themselves an experimental music duo, and they have been in the Starling Project space at 2401 University Avenue in St. Paul for a couple of weeks. That run has been extended because, well — they like it, and the Starling Project hasn't found another tenant yet.

The Starling Project is the brainchild of some U of M grad students, who hope to revitalize University Avenue during the Central Corridor construction by finding imaginative uses and tenants for vacant storefronts.
