Classes

The Twin Cities Media Alliance offers a variety of affordable classes and workshops on writing, citizen journalism, social media, photography, and video. We’re committed to providing everyone with the tools, skills, and support they need to tell the stories of their communities.

Scroll down for a complete list of upcoming Twin Cities Media Alliance/Twin Cities Daily Planet classes! Please click here to sign up for our TCMA/TCDP newsletter. News about upcoming classes and other events will be delivered to your inbox every month.

Check out our Newsroom Cafés. Come meet the editors and other Daily Planet writers, bring your suggestions for written and video stories or photo essays, either stories you want to write or that you think someone else should write. Locations vary—see below for upcoming places and times. No registration necessary—just show up!

Email brucejohansen@tcdailyplanet.net for more information or to request a class tailored to the needs of your organization.

Check out notes from previous workshops and read what people are saying about them! Here are a few photos taken during a recent photography class, and an article by Paige Elliott and Zan Tomko, two participants in another.

Our location: Many of our classes and Newsroom Cafes are held at the Twin Cities Daily Planet office (though many are not—see each class listing for location information). Our office is centrally located, but it can be tricky to find if you don’t realize that we are in the Wells Fargo bank branch at 2600 E. Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis. Free parking is available in the bank’s parking lot. If you’re traveling by bus, we’re right off the 2, 7 and 67 lines. If you’re coming by bike, there’s a bicycle rack just outside the building.

Please note: As of August 1, 2014, the Daily Planet has a new office space. We’re now in the front of the building, not the back, so enter off of Franklin Ave. (not the parking lot.) To get to our office, ring the bell at the front door, shared with Triangle Park Creative.
