OPINION | Gun control efforts get shot down

On Sept. 27, 2012, a recently terminated employee at Accent Signage Systems in Minneapolis went out to his car for a handgun, then returned to the workplace and gunned down Reuven Rahamim, the company’s founder, four other employees and a UPS driver who happened to be making a delivery. The shooter, Andrew Engeldinger, then shot himself to death.

Busted Paper, on sale in the Twin Cities for the last four years, is just a small part of a new and rapidly growing industry dedicated to publishing booking photos, commonly called mugshots, in tabloids and online.

Hmong 18 Clan Council forum focuses on violence in Hmong community

The Hmong 18 Clan Council held an open community forum on Tuesday, April 8 to address recent incidents of violence that have alarmed the Hmong community. The forum, conducted in both Hmong and English, was attended by members of the St. Paul Police Department, the Sheriff’s Department, and Senator Foung Hawj, who joined more than 75 members of the community at Hmong Village in St. Paul.

Minneapolis Police Chief Harteau: Treating people like family

Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau is a beacon of hope, speaking at the monthly “Breakfast with Gary Schiff” event at Mercado Central on Lake Street. Chief Harteau wants her police force to act on the guiding principle “Did my actions reflect how I would expect a family member to be treated?”. She wants her police to not assume everyone is a criminal. The oath of office and professional attire is a reminder of the commitment to working with the community.
