Courage in the heart: Empowering youth through the power of art

The mural on the south side of the building is most appropriate for an organization combining youth and art. It was painted in 2006 by students from El Colegio Charter School (4137 Bloomington Ave. S.).

Minneapolis: Demolition begins for new Longfellow Market

The Neighborhood Development Committee reviews the landscaping budget for the Longfellow Market. Ahlstrom has asked the NDC to fund the costs of enhanced landscaping.

The new grocery store planned for East Lake Street, the Longfellow Market, is progressing as planned, according to owner Joel Ahlstrom.

Longfellow neighbors meet to learn and plan crime prevention

On May 30th of this year, about 30 Longfellow neighbors met at Bethany Covenant Church to receive information from the 3rd precinct of the Minneapolis Police Department, delivered by Shun Tillman, the crime prevention specialist for Sector 4 which encompasses our community. Ten blocks. Twenty projects. One year. That's the motto of Arts on Chicago, which celebrated the projects on Chicago Avenue in MInneapolis on June 8. The twenty projects, also showcased on the Arts on Chicago website, range from a poetry mobile to a stilting club and a night-time light show. Minneapolis: Shingle Creek School building fate still in the lurch

Last July, in a Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) report regarding the ‘Demolition of a Historic Resource’ prepared by Aaron Hanauer, Senior City Planner for the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC), he noted that, “The Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is proposing to demolish Shingle Creek Elementary School; there are no plans for future development at this time. In the interim, the site would become green space as an extension of the adjacent park.”
