Corrections

Our corrections policy is pretty simple - we will try to correct any article as soon as we can verify that a correction is needed. Corrections frequently come in comments, and also in emails to the writer and the editor. We recommend that, at a minimum, anyone with a correction to make should email the editor - this is the quickest way to get action.

MediaShift, a project of the Knight Foundation, published an article from Scott Rosenberg with some useful suggestions:

There's really just a small number of things any news website needs to do if it wants to handle corrections and error reports responsibly:

  • Append a note to any article that's been corrected, explaining the change;
  • Keep a list of these changes, linking to the corrected articles, at a fixed location on the site;
  • Post a brief corrections policy, with information about how readers can report errors they find;
  • Make sure that your corrections listing page and your corrections policy (whether they're on the same or different pages) are part of your site navigation -- they should be accessible by one click from any page on your site.

MN VOICES | Jay Clark combines organizing and education

Jay Clark, the Director of the Minnesota Center for Neighborhood Organizing (MCNO), a program of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA), thinks that everybody should be involved with their neighborhood group, whether they are rich or poor.  “It’s so American and so needed and not done in a lot of contexts,” he said. As opposed to other kinds or organizations, where people are preselected depending on their ideology or belief, neighborhood groups allow a voice for every person. “We need it badly,” he said. “There are too many forces that pull us apart.”

Minnesota prison phones: High rates, dropped calls, privatization and profits

(Licensed under Creative Commons, some rights reserved by Vectorportal)

Shelly Martin handed her cell phone to her 9-year-old niece. On the other end was her father, who had been waiting in line to use the only available phone. They greeted each other and began to talk — perhaps he asked how school was and she asked when she would see him next. Then conversation ended abruptly. Her niece cried, “Why did daddy hang up on me? Doesn’t he care about me?” Recounting the story, Martin relived the frustration of trying to explain the interruption. Her brother is in prison, so cut-off phone calls are beyond his control, and he can't call back.
