Dog-friendly dining: Northeast Minneapolis

Though a few frosty mornings might claim otherwise, lingering memories of that 80-degree St. Patrick’s Day have us hopeful that patio- and sidewalk-dining weather will come again soon. And it will! But decisions, decisions … where to eat? Welcome to another dog-friendly, at-a-glance dining roundup, this time focusing on one of our favorite pooch playgrounds of a neighborhood: Northeast Minneapolis. Check out a few of our favorite spots to chow down with your Chow Chow below, and remember: There’s more where that came from in our handy-dandy directory!

Aster Cafe

125 Main St. SE

Why? Because you and your pooch will love the peaceful garden patio. Situated on historic Main Street near downtown, the location makes it ideal for a post-soup-and-sandwich stroll.

Bulldog Northeast

401 E. Hennepin Ave.

Why? Because it’s named after a dog—what more could you want? Oh, you say you also crave some tasty people-watching and satisfying bar food? You’ve come to the right place.

Ginger Hop

201 E. Hennepin Ave.

Why? Because everyone loves a spicy/sweet nibble on a beautiful sidewalk. Plus, the staff regularly refills the water bowls and is generous with the ear scratches (for dogs, not peeps).

Pracna on Main

117 Main St. SE

Why? Because it’s hard to say who will delight more in watching the river go by on a warm evening—you or your pup. This Minneapolis mainstay offers classic sandwiches and an enticing happy hour.

Right: Happy hour on the Psycho Suzi's patio.

Psycho Suzi’s Motor Lounge

1900 Marshall St. NE

Why? Because the huge tiki-themed patio is a now legendary doggie meetup spot. Be warned that there may be some begging from your table-mates if you order the beer-battered cheese curds.

Red Stag Supperclub

509 1st Ave. NE

Why? Well, the menu is imaginative and the sidewalk patio, while small, is tended to by a welcoming staff. Stay tuned to this here blog for an upcoming story about the talented Kim Bartmann and her collection of dog-friendly restaurants (including this gem!)

Wilde Roast Cafe

65 Main St. SE

Why? Because we think Oscar Wilde would have found the idea of lounging with one’s dog and a double espresso very civilized indeed.

  • I wish restaurants in the TC allowed dogs inside the way they do in Europe. Until then, thanks for the info about where I can take my bulldog for a fun time for both of us. - by Stephanie Fox on Fri, 05/17/2013 - 11:38am
