2012 Pride is pooch-tastic!
Dust off your dog’s best rainbow T-shirt, because Pride weekend is coming up June 23 & 24, and this year, it’s even more pup-friendly than ever! For starters, since Sidewalk Dog proudly supports the GLBT community, we have teamed up with the Twin Cities Pride Festival as an official 2012 media sponsor to make sure the festival includes everything a proud pup could want. Here are some highlights:
- A large area of booths called Pet Central, dedicated to super-fun pet stuff (this is where the Sidewalk Dog pack will be hanging out, so come say hi!)
- The 3rd Annual Twin Cities Pride Doggy Drag Show, where Spot can show off his sassy side, is Saturday, June 23 at 3 pm (registration starts at 2 pm). The Grand Prize winner gets to be in the Ashley Rukes GLBT Pride Parade on Sunday, June 24! Kudos to Downtown Dogs and the Twin Cities Dog Daycare Association for helping to make this such a fabulously fun event. Click here to see pics from last year.
- Lots of adoptable dogs from local rescues and shelters
- Minneapolis pet licenses available from Sidewalk Dog–responsible pet ownership is a Pride must!

Remember, pet safety is important for outdoor events such as this, so leave the retractable leashes at home, keep your companions hydrated and make sure they’re wearing collars in case they get lost. Pride is a big-time shindig to be sure, so only bring pets that you know to be comfortable in a crowd. And since Pride is so concerned about canine safety, they have engaged the services of Dr. Heather Douglass. She and her techs will be circulating in case of any medical emergencies.
Once you’ve got your safety basics covered, dress your four-leggeds in their rainbow best and get your Pride on!
