Minnesota Fringe Festival shows I'm missing, but you don't have to...

August 12, 2011

There just aren't enough hours in the Fringe to see everything I want to see. Just getting started? Don't worry -- still plenty of time to get your Fringe on. If there is not a Sunday show listed, the Saturday show is the final performance -- unless they get the Encore slot at 8:30 on Sunday for the highest selling show in each venue.

Shows I'm sad to be missing...but you can still see them!

Camelot is Crumbling, Bryant-Lake Bowl, Saturday at 1

Taiko Blast! Mixed Blood, Saturday at 1 and Sunday at 5:30

Domino's Pizza Saved My Life, Playwright's Center Saturday at 1

I Love You (We're F*#cked) at HUGE Saturday at 2:30

Mimi's Last Rehearsal at HUGE Saturday at 4

Angelina Jolie is a Zionist Whore! or, Plan 9 from Baghdad at Intermedia Saturday at 4

Meat My Package at the Playwright's Center Saturday at 4

Knit One, Purl the Other at the Theatre in the Round Saturday at 4

Death Perception at the Rarig Xperimental, Saturday at 4 and Sunday at 7 (I'll make the Sunday show)

Brain Fighters at the Rarig Thrust Saturday at 4 (strong encore contender)

Underneath the Lintel in the Rarig Arena Saturday at 4

Entwined at HUGE, Saturday at 5:30

You Only Live Forever Once at Bryant-Lake Bowl at 5:30 (has been selling out! Look for the encore?)

Fletcher & Zenobia Save the Circus at the Mill City Museum, Saturday at 4 and 7, Sunday at 2:30 and 5:30 (maybe I'll see you there)

The Great Midwestern Drug Circus at the Rarig Thrust Saturday at 7

Blood & 2 Gingers at Kieran's Irish Pub, Saturday at 7

Son of a ______! at the Augsburg Mainstage Saturday at 8:30

Your Responsibility for Sex Failure at the Theatre Garage Saturday at 8:30

And I'll get to see Macbeth: The Video Game Remix at the Rarig Thrust Sunday at 4.

My closing weekend is sad, sad, sad because I've skipped town to go to the Farm Aid concert (in Kansas City this year) to work in the media tent, hooking farmers up with the press (because they just can't all interview Willie Nelson and Neil Young, sorry; might as well talk to a real-live farmer!). Farm Aid is happening unusually early this year -- something about Dave Matthews not having a summer tour that needed to wrap up before the Farm Aid show. Suffice it to say that my protests carried zero weight on the final decision on the date. And while my love affair with the Fringe has been going on for the last nine years or so, this is my fourteenth Farm Aid, so it's a habit too hard to break. And I love farmers. I love you all, too, but let's face it, we all need to eat -- and farmers are critical to supplying that chain. I actually changed the date of my first wedding when it conflicted with Farm Aid. (It was also my only wedding. So far.)

So pick up my slack and see shows! I'll rejoin you Sunday afternoon, and of course will be at the closing night party at the Varsity Theater Sunday night.
