Minnesota Opera premieres a compelling "Doubt"

The Minnesota Opera is presenting the world premiere of Doubt, an opera based on the play and movie of the same name written by John Patrick Shanley. Shanley had the idea of doing an opera because of the depths of emotion and conflict in this story. He approached the Minnesota Opera and collaborated with composer Douglas Cuomo.

October heartbreaks and springtime hopes: For every team, and every dream, there is a season

This is only the second blog post that I have written this season because I have been focused on trying to figure out my life after my divorce in June.

I started out not wanting to be labeled as divorced. I thought I could be who I always was, even though I am divorced. What I have discovered is that being divorced has changed me. I am no longer a part of a couple who gets invited to go out with other couples, I no longer get to play cards as a couple with our neighbors, and I no longer can plan on being invited to all family functions in a family—my former husband's—that I technically am no longer a part of. I miss all of these things much more than I thought I would.

Minnesota Twins: Get to know them? We're trying!

The Twins are off to a rocky start again this season, continuing the level of performance they exhibited last year. The starting pitching appears to be the problem: they started the season short one starter because Scott Baker’s injury prevented him from ever making it out of the spring season, and all four of the other starting pitchers have already had a stint in the bullpen or on the disabled list.

"Silent Night," silent ball fields: Minnesota Twins are waiting for Santa

A hush has settled on baseball for another year. Soon Target Field will be under a blanket of snow. But be assured that not all is quiet in the offices of the Minnesota Twins. In a move that surprised many, the Twins fired Bill Smith as general manager two weeks ago. Terry Ryan has stepped back into the role that he filled successfully for many years before Smith’s promotion in 2007.

100 losses, two Renes, and other strange records the Minnesota Twins might set this season

We were at a Twins game last week that was announced as Star Wars night. With Star Wars characters helping to change the bases, singing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," and ruling the concourses, I felt like I was at a St. Paul Saints game rather than major league baseball. Even with the Jedis in attendance, the Twins could not pull out a win.

Behind the scenes with the Minnesota Twins: Not so fun for the little guys

Amid all the excitement of the beginning of the 2011 season, the Twin Cities Daily Planet became a credentialed press organization by Major League Baseball. A reporter and photographer were at the Minnesota Twins home opener to cover the game.

Injuries happen for Minnesota Twins and me—Will we rise above them?

Interestingly I had surgery for a herniated disc two weeks ago—on the same day that Justin Morneau had surgery on his disc. It has been suggested that I was taking my commitment to the Twins a little too far with this surgery.

Harmon Killebrew: The Minnesota Twins say goodbye to a legend

I am the kind of person who will send a thank-you note six months after a gift has been received and a birthday card just barely before the passing of another year. My policy is that I don’t use a gift until I have thanked the giver; I do make exceptions to that rule, but the thank-you will always be sent!

Minnesota Twins are experiencing the worst, historically followed by the first

Someone made a comment over the weekend that it must be hard to come up with ideas for a blog right now with the Twins playing so poorly. While I have not been as faithful with my writing as I had hoped, it is not because of the Twins record. Life happens and my days are filled with all that life brings—the happy times, the sad times, the aches and pains, the quiet relaxing days with a good book, time with friends and family, times alone. And woven through all of this is always baseball.

Weather and the Minnesota Twins: You gotta hang on 'til tomorrow

Do you ever have a morning where you just don’t want to go to work? Things just don’t seem right in the world and all you want to do is pull up the blankets and go back to bed. Mother Nature and the Twins both seem to be in a funk this spring. It is no secret that we have had a miserable spring. Every once in a while we see a glimmer of hope—remember Easter Sunday?—only to fall back into the cold and the rain.
