Minnesota progressives can learn a lot from Star Trek fans

May 21, 2009
by Elizabeth Rich | May 20, 2009 • (Just stick with me, I promise it’s relevant) They said it couldn’t be done. the series was too old and outdated. The actors were past their prime. No, The Final Nail had been put in the Star Trek coffin year ago.
Hindsight is the official blog of Minnesota 2020. Hindsight gives the run down on the news that jumps out at us on the issues that matter. Often times these stories show us how much further we need to go to have the progressive policy realized in Minnesota.
Someone forgot to tell the Trekkies. And the power of tens of thousands of hours writing letters and attending conventions didn’t go unnoticed. They got their movie. Unbelievably, it was the most successful opening for Paramount in a long long time. And its going to reward the franchise with another film. All because the fans never gave up. So when your pounding your fists on a hard surface of your choosing, wondering what we can possibly do to stop the draconian cuts to health care, police, fire, and other community investments; remember this: Numbers *DO* matter. They matter in Hollywood. They matter at the State Capitol. Come out in droves. come out often. But leave your costumes at home. It’s just not professional, and you need credibility above all. Don’t ever give up! No matter how many people say you can’t resurrect dead cast members, there has to be a way. And it shouldn’t take a transporter or a trip around the sun to make it happen. Spread the word, make noise. You can’t just sit and watch something you love become a relic. Especially on VHS. (does anyone still have a tape player?) Get your mission in order and do not be swayed! No matter how many green women you encounter or tribbles, you need to push them aside and remember that you and your crew of friends and neighbors are the only ones that can stop this insanity. Now get out there and start your day!!! Know wherever you mission will take you, go there boldly. Because it may be somewhere no person has gone before.
