Harry Potter flies to the rescue at the flood-damaged Cedar Rapids Museum of Art

by Jay Gabler • Among the victims of this summer's devastating Iowa floods was the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, a fine structure housing an excellent collection of work by regional and national artists. As the waters rose, the staff swung into action to save the collection; the reopened museum is now hosting a show by MCAD graduate Mary GrandPré, who illustrated the American editions of the Harry Potter novels. Also on display is an exhibit of flood photography from the local Gazette. The museum is worth a visit if holiday travels will take you through the Cedar Rapids area; as an added incentive, admission is free through December 21. Published on 12/14/08.
