What about those living on Side Street?

October 14, 2008
by Cassaundra Adler • 10/12/08 • If I had a quarter for every time the phrase “Wall Street and Main Street” were mentioned in the last month, I could bail out our economy.
Cabbages and Kings is a multi-author TC Daily Planet blog that offers space to interesting but hard-to-categorize blog submissions, in the sole discretion of the editors.

Where is the discussion of the folk who could never afford to live on Main Street? The sweeteners recently added to the bailout bill passed do nothing for those living on Side Street. What does a temporary increase in the FDIC insurance cap from $100,000 to $250,000 do for the working poor? In 2008, a family of four earning $21,200 is considered by our government to be living in poverty, up from $20, 650 in 2007. Everyone agrees our economy is in the crapper. Trickle-down economics evaporates before it hits the atmosphere. Senators Obama and McCain both your campaigns talk about change. We do need change; change for the poor huddled masses. I'm Cassaundra Adler, a financial educator and I approve this message.
