New Bob Dylan video, album streaming for free

by Jay Gabler, TC Daily Planet • 9/30/08 •

A week in advance of its official release, Bob Dylan’s new album Tell Tale Signs—a compilation of rarities and unreleased tracks recorded over the past two decades—is available to hear in its entirety via streaming audio on NPR Music.

Arts Orbit is a multisource blog about the local arts scene, featuring both original contributions by Daily Planet writers and entries reprinted from partner blogs and online publications.

Also available is the video for the first single, “Dreamin’ of You.” The song is great, but the video feels perfunctory. Do we need to hire Harry Dean Stanton to remind us that Dylan has been around a while? That he never stops touring? That he’s bitterly wistful?

For a much more moving interpretation of a recent Dylan song, watch Capote director Bennett Miller’s 2006 video for “When the Deal Goes Down.”
