Last reading at DreamHaven: Have at it
by Jay Gabler, TC Daily Planet • August 19, 2008 • DreamHaven Books, the sci-fi bookstore where Uptowners have been able to enjoy altered states and surreal encounters otherwise available only in the basement of William’s, will be vacating its Lake Street location for a smaller shop across town in the Standish neighborhood.
Arts Orbit is a multisource blog about the local arts scene, featuring both original contributions by Daily Planet writers and entries reprinted from partner blogs and online publications.
The last reading at DreamHaven’s Uptown location—a spot that’s seen appearances by the likes of Douglas Adams, Poul Anderson, and Harlan Ellison—will take place next Monday at 6:30 p.m. The lucky lady will be Haddayr Copley-Woods, a fantasist who ventures into erotica. She promises to read, among other things, her short story “The Desires of Houses,” which she describes as “porny.”
She yanks open the dryer, who feels violated and then guilty for enjoying it…The orgiastic moaning of the toothbrush annoys the towel incredibly, because after all who is it that gets to cradle her every last curve rubbing rubbing rubbing and then contentedly wrap herself around the woman’s breast and hips for a little post-pleasure snuggling?
“There will be much use of the word ‘fuck,’” warns the writer. “Knowing that, if you still wish to bring your kids, have at it.”
