As of the end of business hours today, the
Minnesota Center for Photography will close permanently. The announcement came suddenly, surprising many in the local arts community. The center’s staff and board of directors issued a statement citing a funding crunch; center staff have told some callers that multiple major funders pulled their support earlier this week. The loss of this unique 18-year-old institution, which houses an exhibition space and offers educational programs, will be a significant blow to the local photography scene and to the center’s
Northeast Minneapolis neighborhood.
