by Jay Gabler, TC Daily Planet • July 6, 2008 • We just received a press release from one Samuel Rockwell, a Minneapolis native who is currently the drummer for the Brooklyn-based band The XYZ Affair. The band is coming to the Nomad Pub on July 26, and Rockwell sent a few links in hopes of drumming up some press interest. It worked! This is the video for their song "All My Friends."
I never watched enough Nickelodeon to recognize most of the actors making cameos here, but I sure as hell know a Marc Summers when I see one—gray hair or no. Way to be a good sport, Marc. My family enjoyed many hours of Double Dare, and we forgive you for endorsing the janky board game adaptation.

Update 7/7: Responding to this post, Rockwell writes, "I never watched Nickelodeon as a kid, so I had no idea who these guys were either. Looking forward to being back in the Twin Cities, and am finally starting to feel like I can be a little snobby about baseball out here in New York, as the Twins are a bulldozer."

It is tricky business reviewing a work in progress, putting the writer in a barely tenable position. How can you be fair to the playwright, casting comment on a script that's still in development? Critique the weaknesses and you're a villain for kicking the play's legs out from under it before it's had a chance to actually stand on them. Praise the strengths and you're a cheerleader clapping the author on the back before the job's finished being done.MORE »
