Bridges to Safety in St. Paul

July 16, 2008

“Bridges to Safety” formally opened its space in City Hall in St. Paul on Monday, July 14. “Bridges” provides a safe and convenient place for victims of domestic violence in Ramsey County. There they can take care of the myriad things needed to safely escape from their dangerous situation.

Bridges to Safety is now open to serve Ramsey County victims of domestic abuse, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (651) 266-9901 if you need help. If you are in danger, call 911 or the Minnesota Domestic Violence Crisis Line at 1-866-223-1111 if you are in Minnesota. If you live outside of Minnesota call the National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). Bridges to Safety is located in Saint Paul City Hall at 15 West Kellogg Boulevard, Room 140.

The five thousand square foot space on the ground floor of City Hall features rooms where victims can meet with prosecutors, police, file for an order of protection, use computers to find jobs, and do all that while their children are taken care of in a safe play area.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in room 140 in City Hall in St. Paul on Kellog Boulevard.

KFAI reporter Benno Groeneveld talked with Danielle Kluz, the coordinator of Bridges to Safety about the organization.

Choose your school

Saturday is School Choice Day in both Minneapolis and St. Paul. If you’re the parent of a student, you have the opportunity to send your child to either the public school in your neighborhood or a magnet school. You also have the opportunity to send your child to a charter or a private school. Both school districts, and metro-area charter schools, are planning one-stop information fairs where, they say, you can find out all you need to know about schools where you might want to send your child. Weekend What's What 1/8-1/11: Hunt and gather

Way to bounce back! The Twin Cities seem to have easily shaken off their holiday lethargy just in time for a pretty rockin’ weekend. Art exhibits, which have been on holiday hiatus as of late, are back in full effect; while rock shows and dance parties continue to ignite flames all over town. Our suggestion? Go out on the prowl! Meet some new people, see some new sights, and experience some fresh excitement. It is 2009 after all (an excuse we’ll be using throughout January, if not February). MORE »
