Youth News: Responding to HIV Infection in the Ethiopian Community
Pomi Tefera reported on growing up bi-culturally as an Ethiopian-American as part of KFAI’s Youth News program in 2006. She returned in 2007 to cover the Twin Cities Ethiopian community response to a rise in HIV infection rates among Ethiopians. She goes to Cretin-Derham Hall High School in Saint Paul, and when she’s not reporting on her community, writes and performs her own poetry.

Pomi, We are very pleased
Pomi,
We are very pleased and proud of what you’ve accomplished. It is a great eye-opener for everyone in our community, especially those of us parents that are dealing with teenagers and these situations. A lot of people are very ignorant with these kinds of things, and I’m glad that you took charge and did something about it. Hopefully people will start to follow in your footsteps and start educating themselves and others to overcome this deadly disease. Thank you for your leadership and initiative to be a role model in our youth community.
Love from all of us.
