Name: Katie Sisneros
Website: "I am a founding editor of The Tangential, everybody's favorite humor/ pop culture/ drunkenness/ thinly-veiled-poop-references blog. Sometimes that gets me press creds, so I avoid telling people that my blog posts typically manage as much factual accuracy as a squirrel gnawing on the corner of the L volume of the Encyclopedia Britannica."
What's your job?
"I'm a grad student, getting my Ph.D. in English from the University of Minnesota. They pay me to teach college students how to actually read and actually write, and on occasion I get to read and write myself, often about silly texts with words like 'doth' and 'thou' in them."
Other than your job, what are your claims to fame?
"The Tangential has garnered me a fair few page views, retweets, hand shakes, and periodically a 'Hey, you're that chick who wrote that thing on that website' at a bar or dance party. I once shared a stage with John Hodgman; we talked about naked parties. Also, a while ago, I met 'Weird Al' Yankovic, which was AWESOME."
What's your relationship status?
"In a relationship with a man who said '...and you're my f*cking girlfriend!' in a grocery store parking lot last night. He writes words and plays the guitar, both very well. He tweets as @cdilla, but his name is not 'C. Dilla.'"
Where are you most likely to be seen?
"Galactic Pizza, Tuesday nights for trivia. We're the Bill Paxtons, as evidenced by our team t-shirts. I'm also a frequenter of Moto-i and, recently, Muddy Waters even though I've been trying to avoid becoming someone who's often at Muddy Waters."
Where are you least likely to be seen?
"There is apparently a bar called Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill. Super low chance you'll ever find me there. Also Cowboy Slim's. I'm not profiling with those two bars or anything—I'm sure cowboys and/or men in cowboy hats are perfectly nice individuals. I just tend to avoid places where I'm likely to encounter country music."
With whom are you most likely to be seen?
"Most of my human interaction comes from hanging out with cdilla, which makes for some pretty bizarre inside jokes. I will on occasion go drinking/gallivanting with The Tangential crew, and talk blog shop over 2-4-1s at Lyle's. Friends like CBass, Dustin, Jessica, Caitlin, POB, and Sarah will attest to the fact that I get real texty when I want to socialize with humans."
Where were you born?
"Grand Island, Nebraska. Just take I-80 west from Omaha until your eyes start to bleed and your muscles have atrophied; you've probably hit Grand Island by then. But I grew up in Gothenburg, Nebraska, which you can only reach by paying Charon the ferryman the proper toll to get you across the river Styx."
What neighborhood do you live in now?
"Windom Park in Northeast Minneapolis. I've been a resident for all of three days."
What's your ride?
"'The Crimson Sultan,' my maroon Hyundai Tuscon, in which I've managed to cram a fair few people if the seats are folded down. You may see me pedaling awkwardly around on a red Motobecane on occasion."
What's the best way for someone to start a conversation with you?
"Mention cheese, British comedies, Star Wars, or time travel. And then just sit there quietly while I talk at length and do very little listening."
