Peace Picnic and Charanga Tropical in North Minneapolis

Photos by Ariah Fine

August 15, 2009
The corner of Lyndale and 26th in north Minneapolis was alive with music and peace Friday evening (August 14). Families and neighbors came out for the summer Street Party hosted by the PEACE Foundation with the help of volunteers from Church of the Open Door. Kids enjoyed bouncy castle and boxing, including a chance to box with Bike Cops for Kids officer Mark Klukow. Candidate Kenya McKnight was also out, campaigning for the 5th ward city council position.

Hundreds came out for the salsa beat of Charanga Tropical on Thursday, August 13, at the last Live on the Drive concert of the summer. The event, hosted by North Memorial, the Cleveland Neighborhood Association and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, brings free family friendly concerts to the northside each summer.
