New scam in metro area

May 11, 2009
Please be advised that a new type of scam is appearing in the metro area.

A victim receives a phone call late at night (usually after midnight) from a person claiming to be from a credit card company. The person states that they are investigating possible fraudulent use of the victim’s credit card. The unknown suspects then attempts to have the victim provide the credit cards number for verification.

The victim who most likely was sleeping and may be a bit disoriented then provides the information believing that the call is legitimate. The calls are originating from out of state phone numbers, according to caller IDs.
