Celebrating Obama in the Twin Cities

There’s no reason to feel left out just because we’re 1,100 miles away from D.C. There’s plenty going on right here. The events below will give you a place to start.

>Borders Books in St. Paul is hosting a free Kids Inauguration Party, art activities, games. Sat., Jan. 17 at 2 p.m., 1390 W. University Ave., St. Paul

Minneapolis Central Library will feature a presentation by Hamline University professor Dr. David Schultz, live streaming of the swearing-in ceremony, and a civic discussion led by the League of Women Voters. Free. 10 a.m. to noon, Pohlad Hall, 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis

Riverview Theatre will be live screening the inauguration. Doors open at 9.30 a.m. until noon. Free. 3800 42nd South Avenue, Minneapolis

Minneapolis Public Schools will live stream the inauguration to all students and St. Paul Public Schools has many special events planned, including the Expo for Excellence Magnet School Inauguration Day Parade beginning at 2:15 p.m. Families invited to join the parade down Randolph to Snelling Ave. and back. 540 Warwick St. S.

Black Dog Café is hosting an Inaugural Bash at 7 p.m., Snacks provided, cash bar, 4th and Broadway, St. Paul

DFL Caucuses, Veterans for Obama and others are sponsoring a Main Street Inaugural Ball at Hopkins Center for the Arts. 7-10:30 pm. Advance tickets: $20, free for children 10 and under. Reservations: 952-929-2886. 1111 Mainstreet, Hopkins

Epic Nightclub is hosting a musical celebration. 7 p.m., re-broadcast of Obama's speech at 8 p.m. Dress up! Tickets available at Epic's web site or at the door. 110 North Fifth Street, Minneapolis.

Lee's Liquor Lounge is hosting an event with live music, podcast, and the inauguration on their big screen. Free. 101 Glenwood Avenue, Minneapolis

Nomad World Pub is hosting the Obama-rama Inauguration Party with hip hop. 9 p.m. Admission is $2. 501 Cedar Ave. S., Minneapolis
