New Seward Co-op opens Thursday!

The new Seward Co-op, in its bright, green building at 2823 East Franklin, will open for business on Thursday, January 8 at 10 a.m., with a ribbon-cutting, give-aways and general celebration. The $10.5 million store doubles the retail space of the old store, with 13,000 square feet, and also has a community classroom on the second floor. The building includes Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) principles and the Co-op is hoping to earn a LEED gold rating.
Seward Co-op carries a wide range of food, including a hot and cold deli bar. Its “Ends Statement” says:
Seward Co-op will sustain a healthy community that has:
• Equitable economic relationships
• Positive environmental impacts and
• Inclusive, socially responsible practices
After the grand opening, Seward Co-op will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Seward hasn't lived up to the claim:
Equitable economic relationships and inclusive, socially responsible
practices. We are a farm very close by that sold to the former Riverside
Market that this building occupies. We, the Naturally Grown Farm sold produce to the Riversid Market for 20 years! When we went there to establish accounts we were rudely turned away, after 20 years!
Talk is cheap. Lets get real!
