MUSIC | 2 Wurds bassist Nate Cole previews hot bill at Trocaderos

Root City—whether you know them by Root City Band, Alex Rossi & The Root City Band, whatever—enjoy one of the strongest reps around for a sound that rolls blues, R&B, and funk into one. The New Congress are so good you should be able to roll them up and smoke ‘em. They have their new album Woman Is God coming out any minute, following their killer debut Everybody Gets Up! 2 Wurds has one of the sweetest nastiness sounds known to man. It’s going to be a night nobody will forget.

How much are you looking forward to this show?
How much? I like being on stage like a fat kid loves cake, and sharing the bill with TNC and Root City will be Kool and the Gang. TNC are our favorite band to share a stage with. D [2 Wurds guitarist Dennis Kamp] and I frequently tour the Northeast bars via skateboards—weather permitting, of course. We recently stopped in at Mayslacks to play some Big Buck Hunter Safari, only to hear a really great band. The bar was packed and I bumped into Debra G of Copasetic dancing in front of the stage. I asked her who the band was, ‘cause D and I were both digging it. Debra informed me that they were called Root City. At that time I had just learned we'd be sharing a stage with them soon, and I have been smiling ever since. No virtual animals were killed that night.

What is currently in the works for 2Wurds?
Tons. We are pretty psyched to announce that 2 Wurds is currently working on a full-length album and a lot of new material. It has been long overdue and we have finally made it a priority to get some produced studio tracks done. We did a lot of the tracking at Terrarium in Northeast and will be finishing it up hopefully by the end of the year.

You play with 2 Wurds and with Kymara. That enough to keep you out of trouble and off the streets, or is there another outfit?
I had been moonlighting as a hip-hop/R&B bassist for a local artist called Mercies May. D had been doing some live backup stuff for Mercies and asked me to join him. We played a show a couple months ago now and I don't know what’s in store for the future but it was a real fun project and I really dig Mercies's style.
