Lex-Ham Community Theater features Shakespeare’s “Winter's Tale”

The next event in the Lex-Ham Community Theater's Shakespeare Reading Series will be The Winter's Tale at 6:30 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2008 at 1184 Portland Avenue, St. Paul. The story follows King Leontes of Sicilia whose jealousy regarding his wife, Hermione, leads to disastrous consequences. The play contains many classic Shakespearean elements: young lovers with parents opposing the match, comparing the happiness found in the rustic countryside compared to the royal court, and people getting incorrect news about a person's death. Finally, the winter of the first half of the play with its paranoia, banishment, and destructiveness is contrasted with the spring of the last half with its sense of redemption and rebirth.

The event starts with a potluck supper at 6:30 p.m. At 7:00, we start to read with parts being reassigned at the start of each scene, so everyone gets lots of chances to read.
