October 21, 2008
Plymouth Ave in North Minneapolis, a historically significant site of the black arts movement, served as home this fall to another black arts project, Exploding Language. For the past month, 11 artists, both local and national, have had public art exhibits on display along Plymouth Ave.

"It's a homage to the sixties and the black arts movement," said Kirk Washington, one of the artists contracted for the exhibit. Indeed, according to the web site, the focus of the project was to use contemporary art pieces to capture the “cultural revolution of ideas" that existed during the turbulent political and economic times of the 1960s and 70s.

The event concluded October 18th with a night of barbequing, DJing by KMOJ, and Word games for youth at the Yard Poetry exhibit (think refrigerator magnet poetry, but with giant yard signs). More than 50 people attended the event, including Thomasin Franken, representing the campaign of her father, U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken.
