Northeast Minneapolis hosts transit summit
October 15

October 14, 2008
The Central Corridor Light Rail system won't carry a passenger until 2014, according to the Metropolitan Council, but construction is slated to begin in 2010, if it gets federal approval. A major hurdle in this process was recently passed with last month's submission of a 4,000 page application.

Summit information
The Neighborhood Transit Summit will be hosted by Third Ward City Councilwoman Diane Hofstede and will take place at the Ritz Theater, 345 15th Street NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413. Registration begins at 5:00 p.m., the program starts at 6:00 p.m. and a post-summit discussion will take place at 9:30 p.m.
For more information, go to Council Member Diane Hofstede's web site or call her office at 612-673-2203.

The Central Corridor is one of the major transit plans that will be discussed at an October 15th neighborhood summit in Northeast Minneapolis. Two other liness up for discussion are the Bottineau Corridor, and the Northstar Commuter Rail. Buses, streetcars, bike paths, and livability will also be discussed.

One of the key presenters will be Minnesota Department of Transportation Deputy Commissioner Khani Sahebjam. With a quarter decade of experience in civil and structural engineering, Sahebjam was appointed to his current position in May. Additional presentations will be given by University of Minnesota's College of Design Professor and Dean Thomas Fisher, and select staff from the city of Minneapolis and Hennepin County.
