Media mum as McCain 'spiritual guide' calls for the destruction of Islam

May 08, 2008

Islam “intends, through violence, to conquer the world,” and “America was founded in part with the intention of seeing this false religion destroyed.” So says pastor Rod Parsley, who on February 26 endorsed John McCain for president. McCain has praised Parsley up and down, for his “leadership” and “guidance” and as a “moral compass” and a “spiritual guide.”

Hailed by McCain as “one of the truly great leaders in America,” Parsley believes that “Mohammed received revelations from demon spirits not from the living god” and says the U.S. stands as a “bastion against Islam in the world.” But campaign staffers say McCain’s acceptance of Parsley’s endorsement shouldn’t be construed as endorsement of the pastor’s ideology.

As Mother Jones reports, McCain has refrained from criticizing the Cincinnati pastor, “an important political ally in a crucial swing state.” Of course, the mainstream media has so far made barely a peep about McCain and Parsley while continuing to pile on Obama over his links to Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

“We get off on warfare”

“We get off on warfare” Sounds like a republican to me. Why is it that democrats advocate community and republicans strive for individualism while leaning on Jesus? Jesus never said “every man for himself.” I have a many more questions on this topic, but not enough time to pose them at this time…I’ll be late for class.

The Americans are the new Nazis.

it's going to hit the Muslim press sooner or later

This Parsley is going to be a huge embarassment for our country. The would-be president sanctions, condones, approves, legitamizes a man who calls for destruction of Islam!

This story is already reported in the Pakistan Daily Times, May 10.

This country was founded on religious tolerance. I personally have lost all respect for McCain. Our leaders ought to denounce Nazi-like religious intolerance. Our country was founded on religious tolerance. If McCain were truly a man of principle, he’d forego the votes Parsley will deliver and take a strong stand.

REPORTER’S NOTEBOOK | Background checks bar park volunteers
Minneapolis parks have recently tightened enforcement of rules about background checks for volunteers. But does the “systemic bias of the criminal justice system” mean that many African American males will be barred from serving as volunteers? We want to hear your ideas.

The Uptown Pride Block Party on June 26 was an LGBT Pride Week affair, but you didn’t need to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender to get with it. For that matter, you didn’t have to have a dime in your pocket. All you had to bring was the willingness to enjoy a damned good time. MORE »
