MicroGrants partners with the African Chamber of Commerce for its Grant Giving Initiative

According to the founder and Executive Director of MicroGrants, Joe Selvaggio, the organization seeks to "connect people of affluence and those of low-income by providing a monetary grant to low-income individuals of potential in helping them become self-sufficient". Joe also noted that while these low-income individuals may have a need for these financial help, they must be able to show proof of potential to succeed and expand in such a business venture they embark on.

Adding to what Joe had said, Martin Mohamed from the African Chamber of Commerce said such largess can see individuals, especially upcoming African immigrant entrepreneurs move from poverty to middle and even upper class status. "Such grants provided by MicroGrants is really needed by our community if we want to live that American dream that made us come to this country." said Mohamed.

Reacting to the essence of the information session, Felicia Ravelomanantsoa of M&I Bank stated that such an information session was vital, not just because of it's focus on grants, but also in educating individuals, especially new immigrants who want to invest or start up their own businesses.

The Twin Cities have witnessed a rise in the number of immigrant businesses, some, thanks to the MicroGrant initiative which through its weekly grants, has been able to help these businesses expand. This was evident in the success stories told by entrepreneurs and small business owners who had received grants from MicroGrants.

To show his commitment to promoting individuals with great potential, Joe Selvaggio offered a grant of $1000 on behalf of his organization to 1st Cup Cafe for its management to equip its conference room.
